Implementing Force Multipliers involves a combination of strategic investment, cultural transformation, and ongoing evaluation to sustain growth and success.
Implementing a Force Multiplier approach does more than increase the effectiveness or productivity of a resource or activity. This approach transforms the way businesses operate, enabling the organization to thrive. That’s the true power of a Force Multiplier.
To implement Force Multipliers in your organization, start by identifying key operational areas that could benefit from enhanced productivity or impact, such as technology, talent development, or process optimization. Then, evaluate existing processes and determine where enhancements could lead to significant improvements.
Here are two overviews of how we served as Force Multipliers.
Limited Business Strategy Execution Experience Required a Force Multiplier to Expand into New Markets
Business teams often struggle to execute projects effectively when they lack in-depth knowledge and experience with the process, topic, or technology. Our client wanted to expand into new markets through acquisition rather than bootstrapping new offices. The CEO assembled a team of the company’s top leaders and tasked them with identifying, buying, and integrating a competitor into the first new target market.
While the leaders knew the company’s business inside and out, no one had ever been through an acquisition. This lack of experience in acquiring and integrating another company’s operations and team was the primary reason why the CEO had the foresight to bring us in before the process started.
The CEO recognized the need for expert leadership support and engaged us as a strategic merger and acquisition consultant to join the team. The knowledge and experience we brought to the team became a force multiplier, enhancing the team’s overall effectiveness, efficiency, and likelihood of achieving successful outcomes in the acquisition. As a result, the acquisition was completed on target, and the post-acquisition integration process kicked off with the new combined team excited to begin the new journey.
The Transformative Impact of Implementing Three Force Multipliers
Integrating the implementation of multiple Force Multipliers has a transformative impact on our clients. For example, the CEO of a recent client was frustrated that persistent issues preventing growth were never permanently resolved. Inevitably, they would resurface after some improvement, and efforts to resolve one or more issues would need to start from scratch again. This problem prevented the company from growing into new markets and product lines. SPG’s analysis identified poor internal communication, ineffective team leadership, and a lack of problem-solving skills and methodologies as the root causes of the company’s problems. We implemented a solution leveraging three Force Multipliers:
- An introduction of expert knowledge and experience.
- An investment in leadership and employee development.
- An introduction of new processes and supporting technologies.
To put more simply, we trained leaders to lead change and use proven problem diagnosis and resolution methodologies.
We then introduced a team collaboration tool to centralize and facilitate project communication and documents. We ensured the sustainability of the solution through a train-the-trainer approach, teaching these skills to internal resources so that they could always train new employees. We then applied key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the effective use of the problem analysis and solving tools as lead indicators of a project’s success and outcome measurement tools to measure the solution’s effectiveness. Today, the client’s internal teams have built a culture that prevents problems from resurfacing. The business is back on track to meet performance expectations, grow in new markets, and expand its product lines.
